Peer-to-peer Parliamentary Strengthening’: Parliamentary Development Community of Practice Seminar
The session on ‘Peer-to-peer parliamentary strengthening’, organised by INTER PARES and the German Bundestag was held on 17 November 2021. The interactive workshop welcomed 92 participants from 37 countries. The programme included 5 presentations from experts, 4 breakout rooms for discussion and an interactive networking activity.
The session focused on the role of Parliaments – both through activities of members and parliamentary administrations – in supporting demand-driven parliamentary capacity building, aiming to share innovations and challenges in peer-to-peer parliamentary strengthening.
Specific topics and approaches that were discussed during the seminar include, but are not limited to:
- Innovative approaches to effective capacity development;
- Moving beyond a teacher-student dynamic in peer-to-peer parliamentary support;
- Sharing parliamentary knowledge across different parliamentary systems: approaches, advantages, limitations, drawbacks;
- Institutionalizing international parliamentary development as a core function of Parliaments; and more.
